Academic Reading Interventionist
The Reading Intervention Teacher works with students who have data-identified reading deficits and are in need of intensive systematic interventions.
- Plan lessons that have the intentional articulation and action of GRCS Faith Formation Standards
- Implement reading intervention strategies
- Implement effective instructional practices for intervention
- Administer, interpret, and document diagnostic and progress-monitoring assessments
- Communicate with parents regarding components of Tiers 2 and 3, including assessment results and scheduling
- Communicate and collaborate with classroom teachers
- Differentiate instruction for students who have different skill levels
Job Requirements
- Commitment to Christian education
- Appropriate State of Michigan licensure
- Certified Reading Specialist or master reading teacher, Special Education teachers with special training in reading interventions, or an ELAR (English Language Arts and Reading) teacher in general education who has special training in literacy (ex. teaching word study/phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension) with an emphasis on helping struggling readers
- Must have or be willing to become certified to instruct phonemic awareness
- Demonstrate an ability to manage students effectively
- Skilled at motivating and fostering the reading engagement of students with a history of academic struggle
- Advanced training in scientifically based literacy instruction for word identification, fluency, vocabulary, narrative, and information text comprehension
- Knowledgeable about ways to individualize and intensify instruction by incorporating features of effective instruction in every lesson
- Familiar with the Multi-Tiered System of Support framework
- Understands and can articulate the progression of K-12 ELA Common Core State Standards
Education Requirements
- Michigan Teaching Certificate preferred but not required
