High School (HS) English

We seek teacher applicants with qualifications and experience in US, Canadian, UK or European curriculum K-12 education.

The High School English teacher is appointed by the Hillcrest Board of Governors. He/she reports directly to the High School Principal; but may also work under the direction of other school principals. The High School English teacher will serve as a core member of the High School staff committed to implementing Hillcrest curriculum and respond to educational needs of all High School learners within area of specialization. He/she will build active and collaborative classroom programs that foster a sense of classroom community and trust. The High School English teacher will work collaboratively with peers and administrators by serving on academic committees as appointed. He/she will establish good relationships with parents and other staff members. The high school operates on an 8-period rotating block schedule, and teachers are assigned to teach 5 of 8 blocks. A strong understanding of academic best practices along with participation in professional development sessions will serve to promote student success. Familiarity with the school philosophy, mission and Statement of Faith is essential.

Job Requirements

In addition to the grade level expectations, teachers at Hillcrest are encouraged to foster a collaborative working environment. This is facilitated as teachers are expected to:

  • Liaise and communicate regularly with colleagues in regards to planning, assessment, parent and community contact, subject organization and classroom issues including discipline, expectations and routines
  • Take an active role in behavioral management and pastoral care of students
  • Attend and actively contribute in staff meetings
  • Maintain updated records of attendance, assessment, reports, conferences and communication with parents
  • Foster the development of a strong High School program
  • Participate in professional staff development activities
  • Implement a range of teaching strategies to differentiate learning where needed
  • Complete all assigned duties within the identified timeline
  • Participate in and assist with school events and co-curricular activities as required
  • Foster learning environments that engage students to develop their potential and experience spiritual growth
  • Assess students’ work frequently in combination with constructive feedback
  • Submit student grades and verification documents in accordance with academic reporting schedule
  • Inform the Principal of disciplinary matters that exceed the remit of the classroom teacher
  • Complete other task assigned by the Principal or Superintendent


Education Requirements

  • Committed to the Lordship of Christ in his/her life
  • Secondary license or current certification for teaching English
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or area of expertise required from accredited university
  • Previous teaching experience and knowledge in the area of English/Literature at High School level
  • Ability to develop successful academic programs
