Special Education Teacher - Part-time

The Special Education Teacher must possess an understanding of students who have a variety of learning needs.

Job Summary:


The Special Education Teacher must possess an understanding of students who have a variety of learning needs as well as knowledge of and how to effectively instruct them. This teacher must be adept with technology and must be familiar with the Microsoft Office Suite. The Special Education Teacher will demonstrate a passion for ministering to children through teaching. This teacher would also be responsible for interacting with the other support staff members, as well as the general education teachers. The SPED Teacher will be expected to provide academic, emotional and Spiritual support, as well as guidance on study skills and executive functioning skills such as planning, organization, and time-management.

Job Requirements

Role and Responsibilities:


  • Plan and implement instruction based upon student Individual Learning Plans (ILP’s) and curriculum requirements as assigned
  • Consult and collaborate with classroom teachers who have resource students in their classes about teaching, learning, behavior, and grading
  • Assist students with intervention needs or those with other specific learning needs
  • Communicate as needed with families who have students enrolled in resource support
  • Utilize the services of the assigned aide to maximize individualized services to students
  • Monitor student progress weekly in all General Education classes
  • Participate in required staff meetings, events, and activities
  • Adhere to Valley Christian policies, procedures/processes, and codes
  • Perform other related assigned duties


Education Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:


  • Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is a consistent testimony among others
  • Faithfully attend and financially support a local church whose beliefs are in agreement with our school
  • Agree to uphold Valley Christian’s Statement of Faith
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field from an accredited college is required
  • Attain ACSI Standard Certification within three years of employment
  • Must have and maintain a valid level one IVP fingerprint card
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Ability to multitask with organization
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions


Preferred Skills and Knowledge:


  • Background working with students in special education
  • Prior experience preferred


Physical Requirements:


  • Use a computer (visual and keyboarding) for long periods of time
  • Able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) 50% of the time
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
  • At times requires stooping, bending, turning, pushing, pulling, reaching and climbing stairs (2-story)
  • Use of hands, fingers, arms to reach, grip and maneuver objects
  • Must be able to respond quickly to sounds (fire/security alarms)
  • Work in noisy and crowded school environment
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings when needed
  • Frequent walking throughout the campus
  • Work around small children including sitting, standing, running and climbing stairs
  • Must be able to lift and carry small children up to 40 pounds in case of emergency
