Grand Haven Christian (GHC) is seeking a full-time Special Education Lead Teacher for the 2024/2025 school year. GHC is a PK-8th grade school serving approximately 460 students in preschool through 8th grade. Located along the shores of Lake Michigan, the school is in the midst of its 144th year of partnering with families to provide a Christ-centered education. Our school's mission is to educate minds and shape hearts for service to God in His world. Major Responsibilities

  • Establish and promote program philosophy, guidelines and initiatives.
  • Establish a vision for delivering student educational services to students throughout the building.
  • Prepares, adapts, and delivers instructional material.
  • Develops suitable curricula and effective teaching methods based on assessment of students' needs.
  • Be involved as needed within the established benchmarking and progress monitoring protocols.
  • Coordinates student educational services by meeting regularly with Educational Support Services (ESS) staff.
  • Works cooperatively with local entities, particularly Grand Haven Area Public Schools, involved with student educational programs and participates in local organizations which support those programs.
  • Building point person for student evaluations while working in step with organizations like All Belong or Grand Haven Area Public Schools to complete assessments and meetings prior, during, and after testing.
  • Meet regularly with and as needed with Child Study Teams (CST) to discuss student progress and to make decisions about support.
  • Coordinate individualized student plans, including accommodations, updating them annually and as needed.

Instructional Program Leadership

  • Provides for and supports professional development for both special education and general education staff relative to intervention and educating students with special needs.
  • Provides administrative and consultative services to the administrative and teaching staff and participates in program development and improvement.
  • Works collaboratively to build a team, solve problems and mediate disputes.
  • Supervises staff assigned to student educational programs to ensure that they are properly carrying out functions assigned to their positions.
  • Facilitates problem-solving of student educational program issues collaboratively with parents and staff.

Relationships and Communication

  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with staff and parents.
  • Plan and conduct parent/teacher conferences as needed or as scheduled.
  • Be accountable to participate in parent/family school events as scheduled or requested by the Principal.
  • Be an active contributor in team meetings, staff development, and committees.

Education Requirements

Applicants should have at minimum a Bachelors Degree in Special Education along with a valid Michigan teaching license or willingness to work towards one.
