Library Media Specialist
Grand Rapids Christian Schools seeks applicants for a full-time Library Media specialist.
Position Title: Library Media Specialist
Building: Grand Rapids Christian Elementary School - Iroquois Campus
Contract: 1.0 FTE (Brighton shared time contract)
Reports to: Executive Director of Technology
Coordinates with: Building Principal and Staff; GRCS Library Media Specialists; Academic Program Coordinator
The Library Media Specialist is responsible for working collaboratively with staff to develop a library program that supports the curriculum, provides instructional leadership supporting and enhancing the learning process, helps learners with research and determining trustworthy sources, fosters a culture of reading, maintains a collection rich with diverse resources, and manages the Learning Commons as an innovative hub of the school.
Job Requirements
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Educational Leader and Program Administrator
- Articulate and support the vision of the learning commons which is “to enable students and staff to appreciate literature and utilize technology to become thoughtful, effective users and producers of information and ideas which reflect the diversity of God’s world”.
- Manage the learning commons staff, budget, resources and services.
- Provide a welcoming, safe, and inclusive learning environment conducive to learning and exploration.
- Support professional learning and develop professional growth experiences.
Information Specialist
- Provide leadership in the selection, acquisition, evaluation, and organization of age appropriate, culturally diverse resources.
- Ensure equitable and ethical use of information.
Instruction Specialist
- Instruct students in library activities engaging them in learning experiences with curricular ties that foster curiosity, creativity, inquiry, global learning, and in learner ownership while cultivating the skills outlined in the METS, ISTE, and AASL standards.
- Model and promote digital citizenship while teaching students to be discriminating and effective users of media, and how to be responsible Christ-like citizens of our digital and print resources.
- Foster and support appreciation for reading, literacy, and research in conjunction with classroom activities.
Education Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid elementary Michigan Teaching Certificate (preferably with a State of Michigan Library Media NK-12 endorsement)
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience working in an educational setting
