High School Orchestra Teacher (Shared-Time)
The HS Orchestra Teacher must be able to effectively integrate reformed Christian perspectives, and relate effectively to and motivate students with diverse musical abilities.
- Co-direct high school instrumental students in the Sinfonia and Symphony Strings ensembles
- Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in orchestra
- Develop and implement plans for the instrumental music program and show written evidence of preparation as required
- Select developmentally appropriate literature in alignment with the orchestra curriculum
- Rehearse and conduct ensembles in preparation for performances
- Plan concerts and events in collaboration with other music department staff
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing
- Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
- Serve as an advocate for the essential role of the arts in faithful Christian life and witness
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
- Has previous orchestral teaching experience
- Has the ability to collaborate effectively both as part of a three-person orchestra team and within the larger music department.
- Can maintain positive working relationships with students and colleagues
- Is passionate about quality music education at all levels
- Demonstrates a high level of musicianship in their own string playing
- Is a Christian teacher who delights in helping students of all skill and ability levels to grow
Education Requirements
- Must meet the State of Michigan Teacher Certification requirement
