Athletic Director and 3rd-8th Grade PE Teacher

Highland Christian School is looking for a full-time Athletic Director and 3rd-8th Grade PE Teacher for the coming 2024/2025 school year.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION

This person is responsible for overseeing Athletics and Physical Education for 3rd-8th grade students at Highland Christian School. The role outlined below requires an individual that will need to be detail and task-oriented, communicate well with staff, parents, and students, a self-starter, bring a level of excellence to athletics and education, and work well with others.

The Athletic Director reports to and takes direction from the Administrative Team, and must act in accordance with the HCS Constitution and within the policies established by the Board.

Preferred Qualifications of the Athletic Director and 3rd-8th Grade PE Teacher

Education: Degree in Education, Fitness, Coaching, or Other Related Field

Experience: 3+ Years of Teaching or Coaching Experience

Faith: A successful candidate must have and profess a personal and mature commitment to faith in Jesus Christ, affirm the school’s statement of faith/basis of instruction and mission statement, and sign in agreement with the school’s policy of Human Sexuality. Membership of a Bible-believing Protestant church is a requirement of the position.

The Athletic Director and 3rd-8th Grade PE Teacher must:

  • Be positive, professional, and tactful in dealing with constituents, officials, and other school personnel.

The Athletic Director and 3rd-8th Grade PE Teacher must:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of a wide range of sports and the professional knowledge to lead coaches;
  • Be able to troubleshoot and quick to find appropriate solutions;

  • Stay abreast of best practices and professional growth through regular professional development and networking;
  • Be able to articulate a Reformed philosophy of education consistent with Scripture and the HCS statement of faith/basis of instruction and mission statement;
  • Be able to explain to potential students and their parents the reasons why Reformed Christian education should be chosen;
  • Demonstrate a commitment to gender and ethnic/national origin diversity at all levels in the workplace and within the student body, and further demonstrate cultural sensitivity and competency in dealing with a diverse group;
  • Work well under pressure and tight timelines

Administrative Attributes

The Athletic Director and 3rd-8th Grade PE Teacher must:

  • Demonstrate excellent time-management and organization skills;
  • Demonstrate an ability to delegate and to accomplish tasks through coordination and facilitation amongst a team of individuals;
  • Handle multiple tasks and responsibilities with competing due dates and priorities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a resource for all students, parents, staff, and constituents.
  • Grow professionally as a teacher and as Athletic Director
  • Promote fitness for all students and staff
  • Organize, Communicate, and plan Intramurals (2 days a week)
  • Attend all conference meetings
  • Keep faculty and the school community informed with upcoming events, tryouts, and competitions. All communication must be proactive in nature.
  • Prepare annual budget for athletic expenses
  • See that all equipment is kept safe and in good condition
  • Facilitate all purchases - including sports equipment, uniforms (via schedule),
  • Prepare the necessary paperwork and schedule for the following activities and events:
  • Securing Referees, Making Maps, Securing Supervision, Arranging Transportation, Scheduling All Games, Keeping the School Calendar Current, and Reviewing Student Grades
  • Host Tournaments (when applicable)
  • Work alongside Administration to keep handbooks current
  • Monitor and ensure all coaches adhere to state and school mandated trainings
  • Coordinate Track and Field Day
  • Write and implement unit and lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate and engage students at a high level.

SCHEDULE

  • Work Schedule:
  • Teaching Hours: 7:45am - 3:15pm
  • Athletic Director Hours: Varies; with time after school and on Saturdays

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Athletic Director and 3rd-8th Grade PE Teacher is directly responsible and accountable to the Administrative Team and shall be evaluated annually according to established criteria, including the imposition of annual performance goals and objectives that include reference to appropriate metrics and/or key performance indicators of success. Physical Education classes will be evaluated via the Danielson Rubric.
