Head of School/Principal
Cornerstone provides a rigorous, classical, Christ-centered education to students of Washington, DC.
Cornerstone is on the verge of dual accreditation through Christian Schools International and Cognia (formerly AdvancED). The self-study process has had two major effects: 1) accreditation affirmed the strength of Cornerstone’s academic discipleship mission, and 2) provided significant feedback to inform strategic improvement.
Cornerstone’s next Head of School will provide vision and leadership in several significant strategic areas articulated in the accreditation exercise:
- Ensure continuous (year-to-year) evidence-based curriculum adherence to Cornerstone’s academic mission, philosophy, and goals. Revise the Portrait of a Graduate; Strengthen curriculum alignment and continuity; Improve faculty training and instructional resources.
- Recruit, hire, sustain, and retain qualified and experienced teachers.
- Create an administrative culture where employees are empowered to set and accomplish relevant goals.
- Develop an administrative structure that fosters professional and organizational growth through clearly defined roles and expectations.
- Improve financial sustainability by increasing donor revenue and growing revenue from tuition through greater socio-economic diversity, reducing dependence on the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program.
The Head of School will also work with the Board of Directors and the retiring Executive Director to expand Cornerstone’s donor network through the development of sustained, significant giving from individuals and institutions who are drawn to the needs of the city and inspired by the significant impact of the school.
The Head of school will also oversee the day to day operations of the school.
The ideal candidate will have:
A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and demonstrated experience of faithful Christian living, affirming the School’s statement of values and educational philosophy;
- Five years or more of urban educational or ministry experience;
- Five years or more of executive-level organizational leadership;
- Master’s degree or equivalent;
- Five years or more of classroom teaching and/or academic administration;
- Demonstrated ability to foster sustained relationships with major donors.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in the administration of a school, ideally, experience serving low-income students. While an advanced degree is preferred, all candidates with experience will be considered.
