CSESA Training Details

The Christian School Educators Science Academy (CSESA) is a two-day intensive training in the VAEI instructional model, with biblical worldview integration, that will take place at the Van Andel Education Institute in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

In this training, you will: 

  • Learn how to better integrate biblical worldview within your science lessons
  • Become better equipped as a teacher of science
  • Learn how to transform lessons to encourage students to think and act like scientists
  • Further understand the nature and development of scientific and engineering practices and discourse
  • Experience excitement, interest, and motivation to learn about phenomena in the natural and physical world
  • Generate and evaluate scientific evidence and explanations
  • Know, use, and interpret scientific explanation of the natural world
  • Think of yourself as a science/engineering learner, and develop an identity as someone who knows about, uses and sometimes contributes to science and engineering

Details

Thanks to our generous donors, CSI member school teachers who apply by August 30, 2019 and are accepted into the Academy will be responsible for the tuition amount of $350. Member school teachers who apply between August 31–September 20, 2019 and are accepted into the Academy will be responsible for the tuition amount of $450. Accepted teachers from non-member schools will be responsible for the tuition amount of $750, regardless of when their applications are submitted, and are responsible for their own travel costs.

Please Note: Christian Schools International, through their donor bases, underwrite the cost for participants. The tuition cost of the Academy includes the training, lodging and food for the duration of the Academy. 

For those member school participants who live more than 60 miles/100km from the training site, CSI will subsidize the travel costs (specifically, flight/driving costs only) to attend, up to a maximum of $500, which will be reimbursed after the Academy takes place.

Lodging is provided Wednesday night through Friday morning at the Homewood Suites by Hilton Hotel, located in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan.


Reservations will be handled by Christian Schools International. However, if your travel plans include any additional nights beyond the ones already reserved, these additions will be at your own expense and must be communicated to the Christian Schools International staff. Rooms are not guaranteed to be available at the venue for the group rate beyond Thursday night.


Rooms are similar to a standard hotel room, with linens and towels provided. Each attendee will have their own room.

A dinner reception will be available Wednesday evening in the hotel lobby from 5:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m. Breakfast will be provided for Thursday morning and Friday morning, beginning at 6:00 a.m. in the hotel lobby.

Snacks and lunch both days will be provided by the Van Andel Education Institute at the training facility.

A Networking Dinner will be held Thursday evening, November 14, 2019 at San Chez Bistro in downtown Grand Rapids.
