CSI Board Adds New Members

Three new board members fill the existing vacancies and add a variety of experience to the board.

The CSI board welcomes the following new trustees to assist with discerning and developing the mission of the organization.

 

Mary Lou Capan will fulfill the vacancy left by Margi McCombs. Mary Lou has served as the principal and/or head of school for three CSI member schools in Pennsylvania and Florida. Currently, she serves as the director of curriculum for Covenant Day School in Matthews, North Carolina. She’s been active in school accreditation and was recently trained to lead site visits for CSI. She and her husband, Mike, have two married children and five grandchildren.

James C. Bruinsma will fulfill the vacancy left by Charlie Kuperus. He is a member of the Miller Johnson law firm and has been practicing law since 1976. Jim and his wife, Ellen, have three adult children who attended Grand Rapids Christian Schools through middle school, and attended NorthPointe Christian for high school. He has been on the board for the Potter’s House Christian School Foundation and NorthPointe Christian Educational Foundation.

Gayle Monsma has served as the principal of Covenant Christian School in Leduc, Alberta, for 25 years. This fall, she will begin her tenure as the executive director of the Prairie Centre for Christian Education, a position that makes her an ex officio member of the CSI board, replacing Elco Vandergrift, who has retired. Gayle has served as a PCCE board member and as one of the initial (and ongoing) contributors to the Teaching for Transformation project.
