Niel Nielson was born and raised in a pastor’s home in Dallas, Texas. He attended Wheaton College, where he majored in philosophy, and met his wife Kathleen. He later earned an M.A. and Ph.D., both in philosophy, from Vanderbilt University. After Vanderbilt, Niel taught philosophy at Bethel College (MN). Later, the Nielsons moved to the Chicago area, where Niel worked in the financial markets. During this period, the family spent two years in London, and Niel traveled extensively in Europe, the former Soviet Union, and the Far East. In 1997, Niel was invited to join the College Church pastoral staff as Associate Pastor of Outreach. Niel was ordained to the gospel ministry at College Church and is an ordained Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). In July2002, Niel became the fifth president of Covenant College, a liberal arts college on Lookout Mountain, GA, owned and governed by the PCA and operating under the motto “In all things Christ preeminent.”

Lauren F. Winner, the former book editor for Beliefnet, is the author of three books, Girl Meets God, Mudhouse Sabbath, and, most recently, Real Sex: The Naked Truth about Chastity. She has appeared on PBS’s Religion & Ethics Newsweekly and has written for The New York Times Book Review, The Washington Post Book World, Publishers Weekly, and Christianity Today. Her essays have been included in The Best Christian Writing 2000, 2002, 2004, and 2006. Winner has degrees from Columbia and Cambridge universities and is currently at work on her doctorate in the history of American religion.
