Grade 7

In the new seventh and eighth grade curriculum, a thematic approach will replace the chronological approach employed in the preschool – grade six curriculum. Grade seven will concentrate on the Old Testament and grade eight on the New Testament. The first grade 7 unit will focus on themes of the Old Testament. Students will consider such topics as God’s covenant and his promise of a Savior. The unit on the feasts of Israel will help students make connections between the feasts and the work of Jesus Christ in the New Testament. The unit on Job and Ecclesiastes will give students an opportunity to study two books of the Bible that were not presented in the previous grades. Studying Proverbs will give students some practical guidelines for how they are to live as God’s children. The study of prophets will emphasize God’s characteristics and his promises made to Israel; this unit will also make connections between God’s Old Testament promises and their New Testament fulfillment. In the unit on prayer, students will learn more about God’s gift of prayer and use the examples of the prayers of other believers as models for their own prayer. The units on archaeology (optional downloadable unit) and intertestamentary times give students additional insights into life in biblical times and Bible history. The final unit on literary genres will assist students as they read Scripture. The patterns and features of the literary techniques in the Bible will add another dimension to the students’ Biblical understanding.
