Christian Education Week 2014When: April 21–27, 2014

Theme: Plant a Tree!

Text: Genesis 21:33

The 2014 theme is “Plant a Tree.” Believers in Christian education are like those who plant trees under whose shade we never intend to sit (paraphrase of a quote from Nelson Henderson). Abraham did just that. He planted a slow-growing tree in the desert of the Promised Land. He would never enjoy the shade of the tree. Instead it was a testimony to God’s faithfulness and a symbol to his children. Yes, God is faithful and his promises are sure.

When: April 22-26, 2013Christian Education Week 2013

Theme: Living Stones

Bible Verse: “You, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house.” I Peter 2:5a

You are living stones being built into a spiritual house. This metaphor is fitting for disciples of Jesus. Jesus was a builder by trade. Jesus was the stone rejected by humanity, but sent by his Father to be the capstone or cornerstone in his spiritual house. God’s spiritual house is constructed with a variety of stones, and the unseen stones that anchor the foundation are as important as the ornate stones. In the same way, each child of God is valued equally by our Father. Each is wonderfully made. Christian Education Week 2013 reminds us that Christian schools are able to bless the Builder, give thanks for Jesus the Capstone, and celebrate the gifts of every image-bearing child of God.
